Over 1,000 Youth Athletes Break Records at Legion Nationals in Calgary
August 8-10, 2025
The Royal Canadian Legion’s 47th National Youth Track & Field Championships in Calgary saw a record turnout, with over 1,000 athletes from across Canada competing in more than 80 events.
Despite heat and rain, many participants achieved personal bests and set new national records.
Standout performers included Dennis Iriowen (Team Ontario), who won the men’s 200m, and Lily Stroda (Team British Columbia/Yukon), crowned top female athlete and new national champion in the U18 women’s heptathlon.
The Championships provide youth athletes (U16 & U18) with high-level competition and an opportunity to connect with peers nationwide. Many relished both the athletic and social aspects of the Games.
Legion honoured the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Netherlands during the Opening Ceremonies, and this theme was reflected in the design of the event’s medals.
Regina will host the next two editions (2026 and 2027) of the Legion Nationals
